I love this volume. The fine art is beautiful and the representation is totally there. I mean a blackness family with both parents. A foster family. Two families with LGBT representation. A family that was interracial. I mean there were so many more. I can tell you that while I was growing upwards at that place were no film books like this and I really like love it. I volition simply fill my own library with books similar this when I have children. I plan to get this for both my nephews. Really great read.

People are divorcing, remarrying, some live in mutual-police force marriages, others opt for polyamorous or open relationships. We're heterosexual, bisexual, transgender, gay, and lesbian. Young kids who live with their parents merely too readily understand that the sexual orientation and relationship configuration their parents choose does non touch on their day to day lives, in other words, it doesn't change how their parents feel about them; they feel loved and that is ALL that matters to them, for they understand that where there is love and respect at that place is family. ...more

This story follows a immature kid who is asked by their teacher what makes their family special. They are a bit nervous to requite their answer, every bit their family looks unlike from everyone else's. But as they listen to their classmates' answers, they realize that their family is just like other families.

For my principles of ethical practice course in Early Babyhood Education, I had to cull a book that I thought encompassed the idea of anti-bias pedagogy. I think this is such a nifty story to read to children... This volume features a variety of dissimilar ways families can exist represented, and I think every child will exist able to see their family unit in some way in this book. In that location are children of unlike peel tones and genders. There is an interracial couple featured with children of both parent's skin tones. LGBTQ+ families are represented with children who have 2 moms or 2 dads. Disability is represented in a family with a mother in a wheelchair. There are too different family unit dynamics featured such every bit a child who lives with their grandparent, a child with parents who are divorced or separated who they split weeks with, a blended family, an adoptive family, and a foster family.

I think that this book should exist read to all children, to make them experience represented and that they belong. It also teaches them that all families look different, but all families are families.

A sugariness, happy, upbeat celebration of family,

A Family unit Is a Family unit Is a Family has a little something for every child, and offers some gentle reassurance that while every family is different, they all have neat value. I have enjoyed other books from both O'Leary ( This Is Sadie ) and Leng ( Dear Baobab , The Better Tree Fort ), and so I was not surprised to find this one so charming. The narrative is simple but effective, while the artwork is immensely expressive. Together, they capture the simultaneously extraordinary and everyday nature of being in a family unit. Recommended to picture-book readers looking for titles that celebrate various families.
